Italy prosecutors finish Apple tax investigation

Italian prosecutors have completed their investigation into allegations that Apple neglected to pay corporate taxes to the amount of around $964 million. According to a report from Reuters, this means prosecutors can now ask a judge to bring the case to trial. The investigations covered the years of 2008-2013 and involve one manager from Apple’s Irish-based subsidiary Apple Sales International and two managers from the Italian subsidiary and Apple operations. The investigation is based on claims that Apple had profits generated in Italy booked by the Irish subsidiary, the tech giant reduced its taxable income, thus saving 900 million euros over that time frame. Apple emailed a comment to Reuters saying that it was one of the largest tax payers in the world and has paid all monies owed. The email also said the Italian tax authorities had audited operations in the years 2007 through 2009 and confirmed it was in full compliance.
