Apple is joining forces with SunPower to build solar power plants in the Sichuan Province in China. Apple worked with SunPower previously to build some of its solar projects which are close by or beside its data centers. Those power centers send renewable, clean energy into the local grids from which Apple then draws its energy. Altogether, SunPower has build 90 megawatts of projects for Apple in the United States.
The projects in China will generate 40 megawatts of solar and will use SunPower’s technology which uses parabolic mirrors to send concentrated sunlight onto solar cells, which then produces electricity. According to a report by Forbes, neither of the companies involved had much to say about the partnership beyond the information already covered.
