Apple influenced the new Star Wars movies

If you’re a designer, or have a good eye, you may have noticed that it appears Apple has influenced the clothing for the Galactic Empire in the new Star Wars movies. According to a report by Vanity Fair, the guy in charge of costumes for the movies said that he “channeled” Apple’s style in minimalism when it came to creating the uniforms worn by several different characters. Apple wasn’t the only influence, though: he also referred to Blade Runner, Sam Spade, and the Third Reich. So, you ask, for what costumes did he “channel” Apple? The answer is simple: the stormtrooopers. Obviously.

There was a piece in the New Yorker earlier this year when Jony Ive talked to J.J. Abrams about some suggestions about how to redesign the light sabres; we’ll see if those suggestions took place.
