Man from Quebec, Canada fined for using Apple Watch while driving

A man from Quebec says he’s planning to fight the $120 ticket he got for using his Apple Watch while driving. Jeffrey Macesin was pulled over near Pincourt, Quebec and fined for using his smartwatch to change songs. He was charged under the Quebec Highway Safety Code that says “no person may, while driving a road vehicle, use a hand-held device that includes a telephone function.” According to a report from CTV, Macesin doesn’t look at the Watch as a “hand-held device” because it’s worn.

Avi Levy, a traffic lawyer, says the law isn’t clear on Apple Watch use while driving because it’s “a Bluetooth device that communicates the telephone signal from the phone and it has been established under the law that you are allowed to use Bluetooth devices.”
