Apple used OLED displays in the Apple Watch after using LCD displays in previous products. So will Apple use OLED tech in future devices, like the iPhone? It’s pretty normal for Apple to introduce a new feature or technology in one device, test the waters, then spread those features or technology to the other devices available, to make it a more coherent experience. According to a report by Apple Insider, there haven’t been any signs to say that Apple plans on offering iPhones with OLED displays, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen, eventually.
One reason that Apple could potentially switch it over is to save on battery power, because with OLED displays, each pixel is self-lit, which means black areas are unlit. On LCD displays, the whole panel is backlit, even those that are black.
One reason why Apple might not jump to offer OLED displays on iPhones any time soon is because of price. Right now the tech is new and not as easy to find producers for, compared to LCD panels.
