Gleefully Hop Along Down Under In 'Run Roo Run'

Gleefully Hop Along Down Under In 'Run Roo Run'

Developed by 5th Cell, Run Roo Run features tons of levels amid vibrant settings and simple game mechanics for a fast-paced, thought-provoking experience. In a journey that spans from Perth to Sydney, a mother kangaroo is out to save her joey from zoo snatchers. Hopping over cacti, bouncing off tires and swinging over water are just some of the obstacles players face during the 20-chapter, 420-level adventure. Run Roo Run looks like a side scroller, but 5th Cell has taken the platform and stripped down the controls for a minimalist approach that is restricting at first but eventually rewarding. The entire level appears on the screen instead of scrolling forward for more action. Reaching the finish in the shortest amount of time is key, so judging where and when to jump is essential.

Tap to initiate autorun and start the level. Tap again to jump, double tap to double jump, etc. The gameplay may seem overtly simplistic, giving players less control over the kangaroo, but autorun and tap gestures compliment timed jumps, making Run Roo Run quite a mental challenge as players unlock more levels. Each chapter is broken into 15 levels and five extreme levels that test your tap agility. Levels are timed and graded on a gold to bronze scale. The graphics are colorful and the music is non-repetitive. It’s hard not to laugh when you hear the kangaroo’s “yippee.” If players are having a hard time, help can be found in the form of Slow Motions and Bus Tickets. Slow Motions slow everything down, while Bus Tickets instantly beat a level. Players can purchase both as well. 10 Slow Motions for $0.99, 10 Bus Tickets for $1.99, 60 Slow Motions for $4.99 and a combination of 100 Bus Tickets and 100 Slow Motions for $9.99. Achievements and leaderboards are tracked through Game Center.

Despite having over 400 levels, hopping through them in the shortest amount of time may have players beating the game rather quickly and wanting more. 5th Cell has devised an answer to this problem, releasing 10 free levels every week. Run Roo Run is a great take on the platform genre, combining rapid tapping and quick planning to create an addicting experience. 5th Cell’s support in adding more levels will keep players hopping along.
