Caught Offside for iPad app review: the app of the world’s largest independent football website
Introduction
I could start this review with a rant about why football is the only correct name for the beautiful game, and why nobody should call it soccer. But I won’t this time; I will leave this discussion for another day (but feel free to start this discussion in the comments section). The app I’m reviewing today is about football, or what people from the United States and Canada refer to as soccer. There are many different football information apps, but most of these are linked to an official company, football club, or organization. Luckily there is Caught Offside, the world’s most popular independent football website that reports all the football news and gossip on a daily basis. Thanks to developer Tixdaq Limited, there is now also an app especially designed for iPad and completely free.

App Design
First of all, I have to say that the app is a treat to the eye. The developers of this app have really looked at other successful sports apps and simply taken all of the stuff that is good about these apps. On the left side you will find a navigation bar, while the rest of the screen is filled with all the news you can expect from an app that is solely about one sport. Everything in the app loads pretty fast and the app is easy to use and to navigate. Not only can you find the latest football news in this app, but the app also offers all the latest scores, fixtures and most importantly, gossip. The latter you won’t find in any official app, and you will be surprised to find out how often this gossip is true!

Personalization and Social Features
Of course the app also offers a ton of customization, which is what you can expect from any sports app. Of course you want to be given the most relevant news for your favorite team. You can, using the button on the main screen, select your favorite team and the app will automatically let you know if there is any news regarding your team. You can also meet up with other fans in the option called huddles. If you don’t want to pick your team from a list, you can always simply connect the app to Facebook and have the app figure out your favorite team.

Conclusion
As a huge football fan myself (as if you didn’t know this from the introduction) I will definitely keep this app on my iPad at all times. The app has tons of news you won’t find on other websites, and the customization options are huge! The app is only compatible with iPad, which feels like a missed opportunity, but it is only just over 8 MB.
