A Fantastic Illustrated Experience

The Wizard of Oz is an illustrated audiobook with interactive animation on each page. It is a totally new reading experience for you and your child to enjoy together as a bedtime story, or just for fun. My girls really love reading interactive books on the iPad, and I have been downloading as many ebooks as I possibly can to keep my girls interested in reading while continuing to read to them each night with traditional books. My girls love that there are parts of the page to tap for additional actions, and I love watching them learn to read, and develop an ingrained love for reading.

This app has a nice smooth reading experience. The story starts with the choice of reading on your own or being read to. The paragraphs are then scrolled through on screen. There isn’t a pointer to guide your child across the page word by word, but the read words disappear as the line is completed, so there is a marker of sorts, just not word-by-word.

Great Movement

The Wizard of Oz has revolutionary interactive animations. Characters move with the finger’s movement easily, such as clicking on the dog to make it bark, or sliding the bird to make it fly. Almost everything on the screen will interact with your touch, and my two-year-old especially loves this. There are a few apps that I have downloaded that are purely for touch and react. My daughter really loves this, and this story allows her to go tap happy and have a story read to her.

The narration of this particular story is also of high quality. I really enjoyed listening to this story as the inflection and character voices are well-done. My son has a thing for doing impersonations, and he enjoyed reading this story to his sisters out loud. He first listened to the story being read, and then copied the sounds in his own way. It was great watching him read to his little sister.

Final Thoughts

The Wizard of Oz - bedtime fairy taleInterative Book by iBigToy-child is an iPhone and iPad ebook that helps kids get excited about reading. There are interactive portions on every page, and my two year old especially enjoyed this aspect. I loved that she could keep tapping on the objects while also having an interactive read aloud. I try to read to my kids every day, but sometimes we’ll sit with an ebook instead. I really enjoyed this app, and would suggest it to any The Wizard of Oz fan.
