The Silent Age by House on Fire has you setting out to save the world as just an average Joe.

It seems as though the fate of the earth hands on Joe, who really is the exact description of an Average Joe. It's 1972, and times, they are a changing: the environmentalists are becoming more active, the cold war is brewing, and the female liberty movement is in full swing. Joe lives in a city and he's no super hero. He's average looking, with an average IQ, and just has an average job. He just goes along with society without creating a fuss.

Cue the excitement. Joe is one day confronted by some man who literally appears out of nowhere and seems to be very ill; in fact, he seems to be dying. While he takes his last breath he gives something to Joe. It turns out it's a time travel device.

Once Joe activates the device, the game really begins. Joe travels 40 years into the future where mankind is now extinct so now he's got to figure out how it happened so he can stop it.

Just like the title of the app suggests, the future is silent, giving the game a ominous and eerie quality about it. You'll investigate run-down buildings and abandoned hotels and factories, all on your quest to figure out what exactly happened.

The Silent Age was updated on Mar. 5, 2013 and currently has 1,916 customer ratings with an average rating of four and a half out of five stars.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere this game was able to create. It’s amazing what silence and no signs of life can do to a game and your mind. It felt like I was always on the edge of my seat just waiting for something freaky to happen.
