Luminance

Price: $0.99 (as of 3/11/13, marked down to Free)

Luminance by Subsplash is a photo editing app for your iPad. It’s free for  a limited time, so check it out.

The app allows you to crop, add effects, use built-in presets, and copy edits from one photo to another. It was Runner-Up for Apple’s App of the Year 2011 and has been App of the Week for both iPhone and iPad.

Luminance lets you create a multitude of looks in your photos, using an endless combination of layers. You can place those adjustment layers in any order to make your own unique effects. Choose from one of many built-in presets to make the perfect image.

You can crop and rotate, view the history of any of your edited photos and quickly and easily go back to a previous edit. You can also share your completed photos to Twitter or Facebook, or save to your Camera Roll and send to any social networking platform or by email. You can also copy and print.

You can export your photos at full resolution, in Small, Medium, Large, or Original size.

Filters you’ll get include Grain, White Balance, Tone Curve, Sepia, Exposure, Colors, Vignette, Brightness/Contrast, Split Toning, and Hue Saturation.

Luminance was updated to Version 1.5.1 on January 22, 2013. The update added captioning ability when sharing to Facebook, the ability to choose Audience and Album when sharing to Facebook, and added 4-inch Retina enhancements. The app has a total of 1065 customer ratings with an average of 4.5 out of five stars.

I really like this app. I’m a collector of photo editing apps and this one is great on my iPad. I wish it had blur and sharpen controls but other than that it’s great for a free app, so get it now.

For: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad with iOS 4.3 or later
