Escoffier Cook’s Companion by Futura Group is a fantastic food and drink app for your iOS device. If you love to cook, you’ll love this app.

This app gives you plenty of tools, including a kitchen timer, measurement converter, glossary of culinary terms, and an ingredients compendium. As the developer says, you get everything but the kitchen sink.

The app is easy to use and helps you follow recipes that would have left you stumped in the past. If you don’t have certain cup sizes or scales in the kitchen, the measurement converter will convert a wide range of units and weights so that you can use what you have. This is especially helpful when you’re following a recipe from another country.

You can use the kitchen timer to create an unlimited number of timers to use all at the same time or individually. The timer runs in the background while you do other stuff on your device.

The ingredients list will tell you what certain things are, what they look like, and how to use them. Never heard of kohlrabi? No problem: the app will help. You’ll get storage information, an overview, menu uses, and a photo for each item in the ingredients compendium.

The equipment list has a searchable index of hundreds of common kitchen tools and utensils. You will get tips on cleaning, storage, and usage.

The cooking glossary gives you thousands of cooking terms along with audio clues and definitions.

Escoffier Cook’s Companion was updated to Version 1.1 on January 6, 2013. The update updated cups conversions and added metric cups. The current version has 13 customer ratings with an average of four out of five stars.

I love to cook and I consider myself pretty skilled and knowledgeable in the kitchen. I do follow foreign recipes quite a bit and am often irritated to have to weigh a lot of stuff where I would  normally just use cups to measure. With this app, I can convert all the ingredients before I have to gather it all together so it saves me time.
