7 Minute Workout app review: transform your body and improve your health

Reviews

Introduction

With this app, you no longer have the excuse of not exercising because you don’t have enough time; there are 12 bodyweight exercises that will have your heart racing and your body feeling more alive than ever before, complete with full video tutorials for each exercise and a workout tracker to keep you motivated.

I’m very impressed with this app; it offers a no-frills, no-nonsense approach to getting in your daily workout with a simple-yet-effective user-interface and voice prompts that will guide you through each step of your sessions to really drag you through the mud, so to speak, and provide you with a fast and furious workout that really produces results.

Fast and Furious

We’ve all got that one (or more) friend or relative who never stops complaining about how unhappy they are with their weight and how they’ve tried this diet and that exercise program and can never seem to find the time to stick to anything.

If you know someone like this, or if this sounds like you, you should download 7 Minute Workout immediately!

There is no pretense, a very small learning curve, and none of the fluff which tends to clutter some fitness apps, just 12 basic bodyweight exercises complete with instructional videos courtesy of YouTube.

The workout itself has a very simple structure, the in-app voice prompt will audibly tell you which exercise is coming up next; you perform each exercise for 30 seconds, followed by a 10-second rest period.

The voice prompt is great because it gives you updates every 10 seconds so you know exactly how long is left. I love this kind of prompting because it means I can resist the temptation to keep looking up at the clock and focus on actually busting my butt instead; of course, it also provides a massive psychological crutch, for me at least, and I think the time actually passes faster with the 10-second updates.

When it comes to exercise, I like the KISS approach; Keep It Simple Stupid! The reason I mention this is that 7 Minute Workout is wonderfully simple, the layout is a simple pink, white and grey theme which doesn’t bombard you with all manner of detailed analyses of your diet, activity level, steps taken, and so on. You just get the bare essentials with the added bonus of being able to monitor your workouts on a 30-day basis, which is actually quite useful for scheduling your workouts.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Fast-paced, high-intensity workouts in just 7 minutes
  • No-frills, no-nonsense approach with basic bodyweight exercises
  • Voice prompt provides you with 10-second updates and lets you know which exercise is coming up next

Cons

  • There is nothing negative to say about this app, I think it serves its purpose very well

Final Words

Another great thing about these bodyweight workouts is that you can tailor the level of intensity to your current fitness levels; you just alter your own pace and gradually increase the number of repetitions you perform for each exercise in the allotted time.

Even if you’re at a more advanced level, this app would probably be handy to have lying around on your iPhone in case you’re traveling and don’t have access to, say, gym facilities or somewhere to cycle or run; just hit the start button and you’re good to go!
