My Love, Hate Relationship With 'Peak Gold'

Although very difficult and frustrating at times, Peak Gold by Colorbox is a game you’ll want to play until the end. In this arcade game you are a gold miner charged with collecting as many gold and diamonds as needed to reach a lower depth before your generator dies. With a hook you collect gold pieces and diamonds moving on a conveyer belt, but be careful because bulky rocks are mixed in with the treasure. If you accidentally grab a rock, you lose valuable time and energy from the generator. However, you may eliminate any distracting rocks by aiming and holding on to the hook. Once the hook is released, it will cut through the rock and reach for the gold! Use this tool wisely though because the extra power drains the generator. One particularly exciting part about this game is the use of “fever mode.” Collecting seven pieces of gold consecutively sends you to “fever” mode where your generator freezes and a second hook is added to collect more gold. At first the conveyer belt has only gold and gems, but rocks quickly roll in making it even more challenging. The mode is very short lived but it helps complete the level a lot faster. You need at least one fever to complete each level. Peak Gold glued me to my iPhone for a good while. I loved it because of its fast-pace but at times I hated it because it took me forever to pass certain levels. The generator’s energy runs out fast and if you fail the level, back you go to level one. I found the game too hard at one point and even took a day off from playing. If only there was a check point to save my progress I would’ve been less frustrated. The app would be a lot better if you could gain more energy maybe by including little batteries on the conveyer belt to snatch. The game almost seems unfair making the player use so much time just to keep going. But somehow, despite all of my frustrations, I kept wanting to play. This game gave me motivation to finish what I started, and even helped me with my hand and eye coordination. This app is very challenging but fun. I recommend Peak Gold to anyone with patience and a drive to win. I would rate this 3.5/ 5 stars, but for some odd reason I want to give it 4/5 stars. Although the game was annoying at times, I couldn’t get enough of it. Check it out and see how you feel.
