Goal.com app review: bringing you all the news in the world of football

Introduction

Goal.com, created Goal.com, strives to bring you all the news about football (soccer, for our North American friends) from all over the world. With a network of reporters covering nearly every league in the world, this app should be the ultimate source for any football news. Available in tons of languages, and with custom news for nearly every league, Goal.com really does deliver on what it sets out to do.

So Much News: Where Do I Begin?

Firstly, when you start the app, you can pick from a huge list of different editions. Each and every one has different content written especially for that edition. Having tried multiple editions, I soon found out the International edition is the best for people wanting to keep abreast on all the football news around the world. The app always shows instantly if there are any matches today and if there are, it shows you the live scores.

Every news story is accompanied by a nice high-resolution photo and, in some cases, video as well. Regrettably, you can’t scroll down to previous breaking news items. This is a huge let down for me, especially in these few weeks early in the season. Many breaking news stories may happen but I can only see the latest ten. You can always go to the news section and select previous news there though.

 

Standings and Club Info

This app is definitely not made for the statistics lover. In terms of this info, the only thing available is the league standings from six major leagues in Europe and the champions and Europa Leagues. In terms of club info, you can make a team your favorite, making the news regarding your club visible in the news section. Regarding club stats, player info, and anything more in-depth, there are plenty of other free apps out there that do this so much better than this app. This app is purely for the football news lovers and wouldn’t recommend this to anyone looking specifically for stats.

Conclusion

The Goal.com app is a decent football news app. I can recommend it to anyone who wants to keep abreast with all the latest football news. However, if you’re in dire need of a stat fix, I cannot recommend this app. It will be better to find another app that is more into gathering these so important features.

Setting your favorite club is a very nice feature. The app is designed for iPad and iPhone and is only around 5 MB. It is available in 16 different languages and covers even more different leagues.
