Football$ app review: penalty and free-kick shootouts, free for all iOS devices

Reviews

Introduction

Football$ by Thunderbull Entertainment is probably one of the worst football (or soccer, if you’re from the United States) games I have ever played. Everything about this game screams lack of quality and easy money for the developer. In the game you are nothing more than a free kick and penalty taker. You shoot the ball towards the goal, and mostly, even if the goal keeper is clearly saving your shot, you still score. There is no skill involved whatsoever, and you will easily win every match.

It gets worse, though.

Ugly Graphics and No Competition

This game is not just one of the worst football games ever, it also looks really bad. The 3D graphics look grainy and backgrounds look horrible. When you are playing, you simply take shots. You will never see your opponent’s try, as this is simply shown as a miss or a goal. You will play matches within a few minutes, but there is no actual challenge to the game. You can only pick from two countries to start with, namely Poland and Ukraine. The rest of the countries are locked but can be purchased for $2.99.

I can’t see anyone even wanting to buy this as the game is so bad.

Ads and Other Game Modes

Before and after every match, a full-sized ad pops up, and while you’re playing, a top banner is constantly visible. You can disable these ads if you want, which will set you back another $0.99. After a few minutes with this game you will be sick of it anyway, and I really can’t see any reason to come back to the game.

The game also sports multi-player, which is equally boring. You are supposed to be able to play as the goal keeper as well, but this was an option I wasn’t able to find playing this game. The developer should’ve integrated this with the tournament mode.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • This game has no pros

Cons

  • Bad graphics
  • Terrible gameplay design
  • No chance to see your opponent's shots
  • Ads everywhere

Conclusion

This is a terrible game. Especially with so many good free soccer games out there, you’d think the developer would think twice before putting something like this on the App Store. Graphics are horrible, the sounds are constantly the same, and the game controls really bad, even though there is almost nothing you can do wrong. Do yourself a favor and check out other soccer games on the App Store and leave this one alone.

Even though the app is supposed to be designed for both iPhone and iPad, the screenshots for the iPhone version on the App Store (I tested it on iPad) look like a horribly stretched mess. Take my word for it and do not try this game!
