Stockholm Travel Map app review: a must-have app for your trip to the capital of Sweden

Introduction

If you are planning to visit one of Sweden’s most beautiful cities, you will need a map. Stockholm Travel Map by Parkour Lab is definitely one to look into. The app sports an offline map, holds information about over 280 different hot spots throughout the city, and has an online search option that will help you find exactly what you need when in Stockholm. You can even set your favorite places so you can always find your way back to your preferred spot.

The Offline Map

The main event in this app is the offline map. When you have a connection, you can ask the map to pinpoint your location using GPS, but in offline mode this option will not work. Strangely enough, the map displays most of the places in Chinese, which I know has nothing to do with my settings, but this might be due to the developer being based there.

From the map you can browse places as well, which are, when selected, shown on the map with pin points. As long as you know where you are at the moment, it’s really easy to find anything you want on the map using this function.

 

Locations and Hot Spots

The hot spots are divided into five different categories: Attractions, Shopping, Restaurants, Activities, and Nightlife. If you’re not sure what you want, you can also browse all of them. Selecting a category will bring up a list. The sub-categories here are also in Chinese, but by selecting one you will get a full description with the address, the phone number, opening times, any other relevant information, and some history on the venue you will be visiting.

From here you can visit the official website, view the map location or save the location to My Places. In the descriptions, some characters are not supported, which will display that character as a question mark. It’s obvious the developer of this app didn’t take in account the characters used in the Swedish language, which is a bit of a minus point for the app.

• The map is in Chinese
• Swedish characters don’t show up in the app, which can be pretty confusing at times

 

Conclusion

If you visit Stockholm, this map can be a life saver. The fact you can use it offline is an absolute treat and with all the locations detailed with tons of information, there is no reason not to download this app. The fact that some details are in Chinese, or the fact that characters are replaced by question marks, shows a lack of polish from the developer, but this is never a big issue.

The app works on both iPad and iPhone.
