'Chicken Rescue' Is Kid-Friendly Basic Fun

Chicken Rescue by Ayopa Games is as silly and family friendly as it sounds. This tilt-based arcade game is centered around helping Mama Chicken find her lost chicks and bring them back to the coop. With graphics reminiscent of early Pokémon games for Nintendo’s Game Boy device, only much more colorful and with a quicker reaction time, the game is simple enough to entertain young kids on either the iPhone or iPad for some time. The game offers 24 levels of fun accompanied with the type of cheerful music one can expect from a children’s game. There are plenty of challenges, everything from dodging barrels to sink holes to angry pigs. The game offers you a choice of using a gyroscope, accelerometer or virtual joystick but all felt a little sticky and raised frustrations quickly. In order to reach the highest score on each level, the player must gather every daisy left out in the pasture, while managing to get each little chick back to the hen-house safely.

There are trees and boxes that can be shaken loose for the chance to win extra points. Multiple Chicken skins for Mama Chicken include Zombie Chicken, Robot Chicken, Ghost Chicken, and Rainbow Chicken, each unlocked with the successful completion of a level, add some goal posts for the game. Points, or coins, earned can buy yourself more lives and keep Mama Chicken in better health. Chicken Rescue will surprise you with its seductively simple agenda but beware for those over the age of 13 since this game is unlikely to keep your interest for very long.
