The Face Change HD Free app falls into the category of humor as you swap, copy, switch, and then morph heads onto different bodies. So does it follow through on the laughs? Let's take a closer look.

A Quick Tutorial

When you first launch the app you are greeted with a very brief and easy-to-understand tutorial of how to use the app. Because this tutorial is so simple and quick I assume the app will be easy to use, which isn't necessarily true, I’m afraid.

Choose a photo from your library or take one from within the app, and keep in mind your photo needs to contain at least two people in it so you can switch faces. It doesn’t matter if you’re using a tight close-up shot or one from a distance, as it won’t interfere with the results.

Once you select your photo the app will automatically detect the faces and then place a face mask on them. This face mask can be adjusted as you pinch the mask to make it bigger or smaller. Here's where I find it gets finicky. Pinching the mask should be simple enough yet it really isn't. I find that getting the mask precisely the right size is time-consuming and rather frustrating. Not once have I managed to get it exact.

 

Moving Along

So after you have managed to size the face mask perfectly, or as best you can, it's time to preview your results. If you're happy with the picture you can save it to your Photo Album or you can share it by email, Tumblr, Twitter, and Facebook.

During the editing process you can move the faces, zoom in or out, or rotate the photo. Despite all these editing functions I still think it's impossible to get it exact. Your results are always going to look a bit wonky and not a perfect fit, but I guess that's really part of the humor. Being able to see faces on other bodies is never going to look natural so try not to get too caught up in the perfection of the editing.

Final Words

The Face Change HD Free app isn’t meant to be anything serious; it’s all about fun and sharing a good laugh with friends. With that being said I still think the editing features could be a little more intuitive and easier to use.
