Superfood HD app review: use Google instead

Reviews

Introduction

Superfood HD is a very simplistic iPhone and iPad app which provides basic information about healthy foods that you can incorporate into your daily life, but you’ll probably be better off simply running a few Google searches instead.

The best calorie counter apps for iPhone and iPad

I really can’t fault the developer behind this app because it has been put together with an interface that looks reasonably decent and runs quite smoothly, although the information contained within is a little scarce for those of you who are looking for something beyond a surface-level understanding of the topics.

Back Up via Evernote and Instapaper

What we have here is a fairly uninteresting addition to the Health & Fitness category of the App Store, providing you with some very basic information on a range of healthy foods or superfoods that you can incorporate into your own nutritional regimen.

If you come across anything you really like then you can create a handy digital backup copy of your recipes via Evernote and Instapaper, and the In The Kitchen section explains how to source, prepare, use, and store each food, so you should know exactly what to do with each item.

Far Too Basic

Superfood HD also enables you to share recipes with your friends and family online via Facebook, and there is an integrated search facility that you can use to find what you need in a matter of seconds.

Beyond that, all I can really say about this a nutritional resource is that it is incredibly basic, and all of the information contained within this app can be easily found by looking on Google or running through some pages on Wikipedia.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Includes information about healthy foods for you to incorporate into your daily life
  • Create a handy digital backup copy of your recipes via Evernote and Instapaper
  • The In The Kitchen section explains how to source, prepare, use, and store each food
  • Share recipes with others online via Facebook
  • Use the integrated search facility to find what you need in a matter of seconds
  • Fully optimized for iOS 7

Cons

  • I really do not recommend spending money or time downloading apps which contain little more than information that can be found with a couple of quick Google searches.

One user perfectly echoes my sentiments: “Even though it does give you information on fruits and vegetables, it only gives you just a few items to look up. You have to continue to purchase new packages of fruit and vegetables. You can easily Google that information. Do not buy this app.”

Final Words

I personally don’t think that Superfood HD for iPhone and iPad is worth the time or the money, but if the developer can bulk up the content and provide some more interesting features then I could definitely see it growing in popularity within the App Store.
