ABC Learn to read app review: give your kids the tools they need

Reviews

Introduction

If you want to empower your small kids and help them with learning then one of the best things you can do is teach them to read. This is no easy task; for kids this can seem like a pretty huge mountain to climb. The ABC Learn to read app is meant to help kids build up or improve their reading skills.

No Pressure Approach

It's easy for kids to feel overwhelmed when they are learning to read so creating a no-pressure environment and approach is imperative to their success. This app takes that approach and creates a fun and educational environment. There are two different difficulty levels so you can continue to challenge them as they progress and there are three different levels. These levels are food, the beach, and Christmas.

I have to mention that the choice of levels even seems wise as they are fun things to talk and read about, therefore encouraging learning even further. The app is meant for kids ages four and older, but really even younger kids who are showing an interest in learning can use the app. It should be noted that the only level you are given for free is the letters one. The beach and Christmas packs can be purchased separately for $0.99 each.

Kid-Friendly Gameplay and Animations

In these games kids will be working to connect the picture they see on the screen with the word that matches it. For each word they match correctly they will be awarded stars, and obviously they are working to get as many stars as possible.

There are really no instructions necessary for kids, which is excellent because they can start to play immediately. They will tap on either a word or a picture, then tap on the match to that one. The pictures are displayed on the left hand side of the screen while the words are in a list on the right hand side. I think it’s worth noting that the words feature a mixture of uppercase and lowercase letters, which challenges a player's letter and word recognition even further.

I like the fact that kids can also make wrong selections as many times as necessary until they get the right match. They don’t lose points, the game doesn’t end, they just continue until they get it correct. I can see that over time this can really help kids with their reading as they get faster and faster at it.
