Drawing Free app review: create stunning masterpieces
Introduction
How would you like to be able to create beautiful and fun paintings on your mobile device? The Drawing Free app for your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad lets you paint with a number of tools, on different backgrounds, and different mediums. Despite the amount of tools you're given to use, this iPhone and iPad painting app is incredibly simplistic in its design. The app is user-friendly enough that even kids can create fun paintings, which also keeps them entertained and happy for those long car trips and times when mom and dad might have their hands full with other things.

Let Your Inner Artist Out
It's time to let your inner artist out with this app that promotes creativity. You will be able to paint to your heart's content and what's great is that there are no tutorials or instructions needed. Simply launch the app and start creating! As mentioned you are given all kinds of tools to use such as 36 different color pens and the ability to draw on white paper, blackboard, and whiteboard. In total there are 10 different backgrounds.
The best iPhone apps for drawing 2021In order to draw you simply use your finger on the screen, which is why it's easy enough even for kids to use. After you make your creation you can share it with all your friends and family members by email by saving it to your Photo Album.
The User Experience
While it seems like a very easy and fun sketching app it doesn't get incredibly high customer ratings. The question is, why? Is there something that is lacking in the user experience? Are there features missing? Well it's actually a combination of reasons.
Best iphone and ipad appsI find that there is a definite lack of features/tools for drawing and creating. This app should be thought of as a bare bones approach to painting/drawing. You have the ability to purchase more pens and "prop icons" with each add on priced at $0.99. Even if you are to get all the add-ons you still don't have a ton of tools here. Outside of the lack of tools I find that the app isn’t incredibly responsive. As you draw there is almost a stutter between where your finger is and where the color is showing up, which makes creating something a bit tricky. The actual icons for the different features and tools are very small and if you are using a smaller device such as the iPod touch and iPhone it’s hard to select them.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Appropriate for kids and adults
- Choose from 36 different color pens
- Draw on a variety of backgrounds
- Save your work to your Photo Album so you can email it
Cons
- The app isn’t very responsive
- There is a lack of features
- The feature/tool icons are very small and hard to select
Final Thoughts
For me the Drawing Free app for the iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone isn’t one that really stands out. If you’re looking for something very basic it will do the trick but there are definitely better options out there.
