Introduction
I often come across news articles that have a catchy headline but employ the use of far too many words to get the information across to the reader. Gist is a fantastic iPhone and iPad app that resolves this issue by summarizing selected articles into five lines or less, enabling you to quickly and easily consume information that is important to you.
Available for $1.99, this app can be used by inputting individual articles, but an easier way is to connect it to your Pocket or Instapaper account, which will summarize all the articles you have saved for reading later on.

Get The Down-Low
The first thing I noticed about Gist - News Summaries is that it has a beautiful yet simple user interface, uncluttered with dozens of menu options, making it stand out from other similar apps that deliver bite-sized nuggets of news. News articles are summarized in a manageable, five-sentence format that enables you to read your articles quickly, get the relevant information, and get on with your day.
When you launch this app, there are news stories already summarized and waiting to be read. These news stories are picked out from recently published articles on Google News and categorized into different topics that may be of interest to users, such as Top Stories, World News, Technology, Sports, Business, and much more.

Connecting News Apps
You can also connect your Pocket or Instapaper account, where you have saved all your articles, and receive automatically summarized versions. The bottom navigation menu has three options: Pocket, Top News, and Custom, giving you your Pocket news feed, Top News picked out from Google News, and a way to summarize articles not included in the first two options, respectively.
If you don't have a Pocket or Instapaper account, or you simply wish to summarize an article you found quickly, you can do so by tapping on the “Custom” icon at the bottom navigation menu. Here you have two options: you can either paste in the URL of the article, or the title of the article in combination with the article text. Tap on Summarize on the top right corner and you're good to go.
You can also share summarized articles with your friends and family through this app with full social media integration and links to share available on each article.
