Veterinary Anatomy app review: learn all about veterinary anatomy

Reviews

Introduction

If you’re in the market for a resource to help you learn about veterinary anatomy then you might like to consider this rather aptly titled iPhone and iPad app, Veterinary Anatomy, which features loads of flashcards which can be used to greatly enhance the efficacy of your studies.

I really like the concept behind this app, although I can’t help but feel as if the developer may have rushed its release a little, as is evident from the slightly messy nature of the content and overall layout.

Having said that, there is plenty of information on offer here, and I’ve yet to find any entries that are blatantly inaccurate, so overall I would say that this app is well worth checking out if you need a pint-sized veterinary resource.

Your One-Stop Veterinary Resource

This little app is a handy resource which has been designed to help you learn the anatomy of cats, dogs, horses, and plenty of other animals. This is achieved primarily through the use of a good old flashcard format.

Flashcards are commonly used in apps like this, I suppose because they are pretty effective and provide you with an easy way of testing yourself, plus of course they’re so darned easy to incorporate into apps so this certainly makes a lot of sense.

Veterinary Anatomy also allows you to add your most frequently used cards to your Faves Deck for quick and easy future access, which is particularly useful for areas that you’re currently not entirely comfortable with.

What’s more, once you’re fully comfortable and familiar with the content on a given flashcard you can add it to your Ignore List so that it won’t come up again unless you need it in future.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • A handy resource to help you learn the anatomy of cats, dogs, horses, and many other animals
  • Access the Main Deck for a full array of flashcards
  • Add your most frequently used cards to your Faves Deck for quick and easy future access
  • Use the integrated search facility to find what you need within a matter of seconds
  • Shuffle cards at any time for a more randomized challenge
  • Simply flip a card at any time to reveal the correct answer
  • Add cards you have fully learnt to the Ignore List

Cons

  • There has been one complaint from a user regarding the indexing and general ordering of the content in this app: “There is no rhyme or reason to the organization of the questions. It would be nice if the questions were catagorized by species, at the very least. Quite random, wish I hadn't purchased it.”

Final Words

Veterinary Anatomy could certainly do with better indexing of its content, but apart from that I’d say it definitely deserves a spot on the iPhone and iPad of every up-and coming vet!
