SPY Mouse: Sneaky Fun

SPY Mouse by Firemint (a subsidiary of Electronic Arts) is a fantastic line drawing stealth game with lots of nice touches and plenty of challenges to keep you busy.  The game it most resembles is also from Firemint: Flight Control. Like Flight Control, the movements of your character, a cute mouse by the name of Agent Squeak, are determined by drawing lines. SPY Mouse has been in the making for over two years and according to the head of Firemint, Rob Murray, it's "Firemint's best game yet".  After playing the game, we have to agree with Rob. In SPY Mouse your goal is simple: collect all the cheese in each level, avoid the cats lingering about and make your way to an exit door. It is up to you to guide Agent Squeak through the 70+ levels spread out over 6 worlds. There are power ups, gadgets, doors, and hidden areas to help you steal the cheese and successfully clear each level.  The cats sense when Agent Squeak is nearby or in their line of sight so he needs to be sneaky, nimble and smart to avoid detection.

For players who need a little help, Kiska the lovely feline is available via an in-app purchase.  Kiska can be used once a day and will wipe out all the cats in the level that is causing you difficulty getting past.  This is a nice innovation to which we tip our hats to Firemint. One of the best and most challenging features of the game is to maximize points and collect all available ribbons.  Points are awarded based on the number of cheese pieces collected and the time it takes to complete a level.  Every level also has a few ribbons to collect based on accomplishing specific objectives.  For example, there are ribbons available for not getting spotted, using only one path to complete the level and for collecting all cheese crumbs.  Perfecting every level provides the opportunity for replay value.

SPY Mouse is one of those games that is sure to stick around in the top 25 paid apps for a long time. Its cute graphics, fun levels, and variety of challenges and power ups will make it a must buy for many iOS users . The only thing that can be improved is the lag time between levels but this is a tiny flaw in a game that is otherwise amazing.
