Hungry Shark Night is based on the upcoming thriller movie Shark Night 3D scheduled for release on September 2, 2011. I hadn’t heard of this movie but after playing this game, I'm definitely interested in seeing it. I haven't seen a shark movie since Deep Blue Sea but the movie trailer to Shark Night 3D looks pretty good.
In Hungry Shark Night, you play a shark you swimming in a dark lake on a mission to devour swimmers, birds, schools of fish, and discover hidden treasures. Your shark's health decreases by swimming around. The only way to replenish your health? EAT, EAT, EAT! Anything you find is fair game whether it's birds on the surface, swimmers, schools of fish, or even a bikini down in the deep. The graphics are nice although the shark animations seem a tad bit stiff.
As your score increases, you level up. Leveling up introduces new threats to your shark as well as more eating opportunities. They range from normal swimmers, to swimmers on jet skis, to fishermen on boats. All yummy food if you can get to them. The shark is controlled by tilting the iDevice or by using the on-screen analog control. These options can be set in the main menu. They're both responsive and which one you choose boils down to what feels most comfortable.
Some of the game's features include in-app purchases such as extra blood, extra lives and treasure maps. Extra blood adds more gore while treasure map allows you to find extra "things" your shark can eat. In addition, you have access to 3 Sharks (Tiger shark, Hammerhead, and the mighty Great White Shark) online hi-scores, and HD graphics on retina capable iDevices.
Hungry Shark Night is a straightforward game but a funny time waster. Pick up this game and use it as your own personal introduction to the Shark Night 3D movie.
