Arm the crossbows, set the traps, and call in a Gork or two. Just make sure to protect the treasure from those pesky miniature sized heroes! Tiny Heroes by Simutronics Corp. (the creator of geoDefense, David Whatley, made Tiny Heroes) is a dungeon-defense game giving a new meaning to the term ‘anti-hero’. Tiny Heroes is enormously entertaining as you strategize multiple ways to kill your eponymous enemies.
The goal of the game is to keep your treasure away from the hands of heroes. The map is restricted to your dungeon layout which is a maze-like area leading to the treasure room. Available is an assortment of traps which can be placed almost anywhere inside the dungeon. The heroes come in five classes: knights, rangers, thieves, clerics and wizards. Each class of hero has different styles of fighting compelling you to devise different defense strategies.
Maps are separated into themed campaigns with multiple levels. To spice up the pace, challenge levels become available the further you progress. While the goal is the same for each level, protecting the treasure hoard, each maze is different creating opportunities to try out new trap combos and tactics. Traps are maintained through mana consumption and have a time delay after each use. Placement of traps and rationing mana are key to successfully keeping the treasure away from waves of greedy adventurers, especially when confronting powerful epic heroes. At the end, points are tallied across multiple categories like heroes killed, efficiency, and speed.
Initially, mana pools are provided throughout the map and will constantly regenerate over a period of seconds. Later on mana crystals becomeavailable at the cost of 25 mana points, but be careful where you put them since wizards will zap them. On the right side are slots for traps with more slots becoming available in higher levels. Obtaining achievements will unlock more sinister goodies to smash, dice and burn would be thieves.
Tiny Heroes is an excellent buy for people looking for a super fun and challenging strategy game with beautiful tower defense notes. If you have an affinity for smashing cartoon sprites in new and creative ways look no further than the awesome Tiny Hereos.
