Dream League Soccer app review: a great mix between a management and football game
Introduction
Dream League Soccer by the geniuses of First Touch is a free to play soccer (football, I will say it only once this time) game that focuses both on creating and managing a team as well as playing matches against your opponents. Where both genres have clear top players on the market (FIFA for playing matches and Football Manager for being a manager) Dream League Soccer does a decent go at making a mix of both games free to play. This app is designed for both iPad and iPhone.
How to succeed in the Dream League
The game starts by having you pick a captain, who will play a very big part in leading your team to victory. Before going to play a match, you should check out team management, where you can choose your formation and swap out players. In the player development section, you can spend coins (which you will earn after every match and by watching sponsored videos) on making your players better at all kinds of skills. Signing players is really easy. You can search by name, or just look for what you need in your team. The way to succeed in this game is to combine all these option and win in the real time matches, where anything can happen depending on your own skills.
Playing matches, earning coins
In the Dream League, you’ll start out in the 3rd Division and work yourself up by playing against stronger teams each season. In 3D you’ll play matches with 3 buttons, a pass, shoot and lob button. Your players will tackle when they don’t have the ball and you press the shoot button. You move the selected player around with a virtual joystick, which also controls the speed of the player. Score more goals then the opponent and win the game, but the amount of coins collected is based upon your goals, actions during the game and fouls committed. The game controls relatively well. I expected it to be a lot worse seeing it’s a free to play game that tries to do so many different things in one game. The commentary during the matches is not very good. Very dull and I switched it off after one match.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Manage and play your team to the top
- Good gameplay
- Nice graphics
- Loads of options
- Real players
Cons
- Commentary is really lame
Conclusion
This is a free to play game as it should be. Tons of gameplay, some ads popping up but not annoying and a possibility to spend money on in game currency if you don’t have the patience to play the game through yourself. By playing well, you earn more credits! I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who like soccer and likes both managing and playing the game. If you only like either of the two, spend some money and get the real deal.
