Not What You Expect

Launching the app for the first time is definitely not what I expected; I anticipated maybe a catalog/library of offerings but instead you have to download a magazine. This process took a painfully long time; I sat there wondering how many other people would sit through the download or just give up. For the purpose of this review I had to stick with it.

I must say after such a time-consuming download I am left rather disappointed with the app. Basically, all this app is a magazine or rather a brochure that shows you a variety of fabrics (1,000 in total), that can be sent right to your doorstep.

I have to take a moment to point out the graphics here. This seems like an area where the graphics are particularly important since you're picking design choices and I was left disappointed in this aspect as well.

 

On a Positive Note

It’s important to point out the positive features of this app, although they are hard to find. There are some rather beautiful design ideas/pictures. I think if you use this app for ideas it can be very successful. It’s great to see the different uses of color, textiles, and even the décor in the room. At the very least it will likely inspire you and get your design juices and idea flowing.

As far as additional features go, it’s really slim pickings with this app. I am disappointed that there is no way to share pages with friends and family. What if you come across a design idea you want to share with someone?

You can use the search tool to go through the text and you can also set bookmarks but that is it for added features.

The app just feels very bare bones. I’m not a fan of the user interface that is far too simple; in fact, it’s so simple that it actually is confusing because you’re looking for extra features and tools that don’t exist.

• There are some designs that will help to inspire and motivate you
• There are a wide variety of pictures
• You have the ability to search the text
• You have the ability to add bookmarks

• The user interface is far too simple
• This feels like a giant brochure
• There are no added features/functions

 

Final Thoughts

As you can likely tell I am far from impressed with this app. For the few redeeming features in the HGTV Home Design Studio app they didn’t even come close to making up for the negatives. This is not an app I recommend.
