Bowling Lane HD app review: it’s a bowling lane. In HD.

Reviews

Introduction

Some of the apps I have found in the App Store are extremely hard to review. As a reviewer you have to be aware of word counts and making sure that the article is still interesting to read. Some apps simply are so boring, and have nothing to offer that this can become really difficult. A developer that is making my life difficult as I am writing this is developer Sulaba Inc. When I downloaded their latest app for iPhone and iPad I expected to get a nice bowling game app that I can play with friends, online, or on my own in a tournament form, but what I got is exactly what the developer promises in the name. Bowling Lane HD is nothing more and nothing less than a bowling lane in HD.

Gameplay

This game is categorized as a sports game, so I will review this as I would review any other game. First is the gameplay: you can move your bowling ball to the side by moving your finger to the left and the right. When you’re happy with your placement, you can simply swipe to where you want the ball to go and here is where it goes all wrong. There isn’t really a feeling of speed no matter how hard you swipe. Another thing that is glaringly missing is the fact you can’t give any effect or spin to the ball, meaning you can only throw it at the pins in a straight line. The last comment I want to make about gameplay is that the physics of the pins are completely off. They seem to have lead in the bottom so when your ball hits them they will not react like pins would in real life.

Graphics and Sound

Talking about the HD graphics of this game, it actually doesn’t look bad. The lane is in full 3D and the ball is round. Behind the lane is a fire where your ball will fall into after each throw. The fire looks really good. You can select all kinds of different bowling balls to throw with and each of them has a different design. The sound of the game isn’t the best, but it suffices.

Conclusion

In hindsight it wasn’t hard at all to write this review. The game is simply really bad, and I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. The graphics are nice, but only shiny graphics won’t sell a game to me. If I was the developer I would work on an update fixing the physics, adding the ability to spin and different opponents and lanes. Bowling Lane HD is compatible with iPad and iPhone and takes up just over 33 MB. Please ignore this bowling app as there are many better bowling apps out there.
