Glasgow 2014 My Games app review

Reviews

Introduction

Thanks to Glasgow 2014 My Games, developed by Glasgow 2014 especially for iPad and iPhone, I was able to plan out exactly which events to watch. This sports app is a little bit different compared to other apps in this genre, which is not necessarily a bad thing, and it mainly manifests in the way the app looks. I will speak more about this in one of the following paragraphs. That said, everything you would expect from an app like this is here and if you attended or watched this huge event, you would have benefited from downloading this one. Even though it's all over for this year, you can still get a lot out of it.

What it Offers

Of course, like I said, all the features you can expect from an app that covers a huge event like this are here. You can find all the different sports represented in the app, all with detailed schedules, competing athlete profiles and any other information you might want to find out about the sport. Of course there is a news section covering all the news about the games, as well as a schedule that covers all sports and not to forget a full results page, showing exactly who won the different events. When you boot up the app for the first time you can choose between two option that will send push notifications to your device. And of course all the social network sharing options are implemented in the app.

App Design and Layout

Where this app actually differs from all the other sports event apps out there is its design and especially the layout of the pages. The whole app seems to have taken the design philosophy of Windows 8, with tons of different colored windows on the home page, all leading to a different part of the app. This might take a while to get used to, but I started to really enjoy using this app after a short while, as the layout makes sense and is extremely easy to use.

Conclusion

As far as sports apps go, Glasgow 2014 My Games is kind of the odd-one-out in terms of design, which in my opinion is actually good. The app looks great, is easy to use, and holds all the information you need to make your experience during this event more enhanced. The approach to the layout and design is original for an app of this kind and doesn’t hurt the genre at all. The app is designed for both iPad and iPhone.
