Spelling With The Ponies

Quiz For My Little Pony is a fun game for kids to play while they enjoy favorite characters from the show, and practice their spelling at the same time. This is a great way to get your beginning spellers to work on sounding out words. They have not only heard the names many times to know correct pronunciation, but have also seen them written many times in the introduction to the show, or on the toy box. My six-year-old did have difficulty with this game because she is still working on getting her vowels in the correct place. It is amazing how I never realized that you can sound out most words without using vowels!

I enjoyed working with her to sound out the names, and help her to learn more about using vowels to complete the sounds. It would be helpful if you had a piece of paper ready for jotting notes, because you cannot erase letters once they are in place, and you will have to start all over again.

 

Common and Uncommon Ponies

Quiz For My Little Pony uses both common and uncommon ponies. This is great, but it means that as a parent I don’t know all the ponies! A few even stumped my daughter! Never fear, Google to the rescue! Just start with the images because it’s the cutie mark that you will need to look up the mystery ponies such as Babs Seed. It took me a while to find that one!

Best iphone and ipad apps

Due to the prominence of more rare ponies, I would suggest that if your child is not an avid My Little Pony fan, that they practice more prior to attempting the game. I got two ponies in before I was stumped, and it is time-consuming to search for the names.

They are presented with a rack of letters, and the squares into which the letters fit. The only way to retry the letters is to push the back arrow. If you are trying to reset the game to start over, then you’re out of luck. I exited on the multi-tasking screen, reset my iPad, and still had the same difficult pony to pass. Overall, it’s a great concept, and if your child knows a lot of ponies, then there is no problem. If however, you have a newer fan, Googling the characters is time-consuming, so you may want to watch more shows first.
