Color Lab app review: learn how colors blend

Reviews

Introduction

We've got a really cool game/education-based app that teaches kids not just about colors but unique colors. The Color Lab for your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone is an interactive color tool that teaches kids all the basics and advanced knowledge about colors. They will be learning through the use of 40 unique colors. There are two different difficulty levels to ensure that there is always a challenge for your kids. This is also a great opportunity for kids and parents to work on a learning skill together and allow kids to ask questions and really take in the whole "lesson."

Get Acquainted with Colors

Here's a chance for your child to get acquainted with 40 colors, which means they'll learn much more than just the basics. As mentioned there are two difficulty levels. The basic level takes a look at 10 basic colors so kids can get a good grasp on these before moving on. The advanced level is all about combining basic and unique colors which will really challenge kids to look for the small differences. Speaking of details, this app is a great way to teach kids about the importance of details, identifying differences, and recognizing similarities.

The best iPad apps for kids

This app is a brand-new release so with that said there is no customer rating or updates at this time. Early comments are already in however and it seems that parents are loving what this one has to offer. It's great for kids aged four and up.

The Learning Process

Before taking a look at the user experience there are a few features worth pointing out such as the parents’ only section with a lock pad, colors are repeated to help reinforce them, and there is a tutorial for parents to learn how they can play with their kids. Besides the learning aspect of this app it's also quite engaging thanks to the sound effects and the entertaining music.

Color Lab has a very smooth and child-friendly user interface that makes the learning experience that much more positive. The menus are very short so that you aren’t navigating through option after option just to get to the game. I like that the colors are spoken, shown, and then spelled out for kids. This is the repetition that ensures kids really start to understand and remember what it is they are learning. The voice narration is very professional sounding and crisp so it’s easy to understand.
