Many mobile device users overlook the use of proxy-based services because they don’t see their real benefit. However, when you look at the thousands of data leaks in recent years (2.6 million plain text passwords, 50,000 financial records, 4 million health information records leaked) for both iPhone and Android device owners, you may think differently about taking advantage of an easy to use proxy service. It’s very easy to become confused when it comes to configuring a proxy on your phone but, it is in fact very easy to achieve, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to complete the easy to follow steps either. This article will hopefully help you understand proxies better and guide you in the right direction when it comes to setting up your first proxy on your mobile.

.

The Importance of Proxies

.

If proxies are so important, why do many mobile owners still not take advantage of them? That’s a simple answer: because not everyone knows about them and, those that do may not know how to use them or don’t see the benefits of doing so. Ultimately, simply having a proxy service on your phone can provide you with an IP change – something that’s important if you want to deter any hackers from stealing your data and to safeguard your privacy. You may also find that some businesses out there will take your data unknowing to you so they can sell it to third parties. Therefore, proxies are crucial if you want to keep your data secure.

Configuring a Proxy (for iOS Users)

.

If you’re an iOS user looking to configure a proxy for your device (whether that’s for your iPhone and/or iPad) simply take the following steps. Locate your settings application (which is usually found on the home screen of your device) and click on the ‘Wi-Fi’ tab to access the proxy settings. Scroll down and you’ll see the HTTP PROXY section. In this section, you’ll be able to select multiple options depending on your proxy requirements. This setting is typically set to ‘off’, but you can change it to either ‘auto’ or ‘manual’. If you’re already on a network that has a proxy, simply switching it to ‘auto’ will do the trick. However, if that’s not possible, you’ll need to pay or take advantage of a proxy service that will provide their server details for you to fill out in the manual section. This generally includes the server name or IP address, port number, and your designated username and password. Filling out these details in this section is all it takes to get configured.

Configuring a Proxy (for Android Users)

.

Configuring a proxy for android devices is just as easy as it is for iOS users, and it will take all of a couple of minutes of your time to ensure your device and your data stays secure. Simply connect to a specific network using Wi-Fi (e.g. ‘Home Network’), and then go to the Wi-Fi settings. Keep your finger on the connected network name ‘Home Network’, and from there you’ll be able to modify the network settings. Click on ‘Advanced options’, and you’ll be provided with the proxy details that are currently active. This step can vary depending on the version of Android you’re running, but it’s typically the same for all android users. From here, you simply fill out the proxy server details such as the server, port number, username and password. It’s as simple as that to get surfing on a secured network.

What You Need to Know Now

.

Once you’ve taken the above simple steps to configure your proxy on your specific device, you’ll be happy to know that you now have a new IP address and your browsing is secure, whatever that may entail. This means that no corporations or hackers will have access to any of your real data so you can be confident all of your connections are secure. This also means that even browsing Google, using your favorite apps, and any other connections you may have when online will be completely secure thanks to your new proxy setup. You won’t need to worry about anything else as you’ll now have a proxy configured on your device that will handle your surfing requirements securely.

.

So, you now know what a proxy can do for you and how it can benefit your browsing experience. You’ve also learned how to easily configure a new proxy within minutes and with little effort (within just a few clicks) so you no longer have to worry about your data being stolen. Configuring a proxy might not sound like the most important activity you can undertake on your phone, but you can be certain you’ll feel much safer knowing you have a proxy service that’s got your back should anything ever go wrong in the future.
