Apple Pay: the good and the bad

Apple Pay went live on Monday with support for most American credit cards and at many retailers. The rollout wasn’t perfect, as is to be expected; users found cards that weren’t supported yet and merchants who had no idea about the service. Now that it’s been a few days, we can give you a heads-up on what works with Apple Pay, what doesn’t, and what we can expect in the next little while.

Some people had issues adding their Citibank MasterCards to their accounts. It wasn’t a permanent problem; it was an issue with unexpected demand.

The second problem is that many retailers, who said they’d be ready, weren’t. Either the terminals didn’t work, or they weren’t close enough for users to actually reach. The majority of those places tested, however, did work as they should have. You can pay internationally with American-based cards, but some have said they’ve had success in the UAE, Australia, and Canada. Chase’s list of cards that should work doesn’t match up with what Apple has posted. Further to that, Amazon’s Chase card is the only card from Chase bank that isn’t live yet.
