The iOS 8.1.1 update should make your iPhone 4S and iPad 2 useable once more

If you installed iOS 8 and your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 doesn’t work the way it used to because of it, you might be able to breathe a sigh of relief soon. Apple has come out with a fix, today, that promises to return performance on older devices that suffered slowdowns with iOS 8. The upgrade also includes increased stability and bug fixes.

iOS 8 was filled with problems. iPhones rebooted themselves and got hung up on the keyboards. And that was the test units. Reviewers said it was the worst release of any iOS yet, and one even said “it seems like Apple’s software teams can’t keep up with the pace of the hardware teams.” According to Crittercism, the crash rate for iOS 8 was 60 percent higher than iOS 7 during the first month. Having said that, iOS 8 doesn’t have a lot more bugs than iOS 6. Additionally, fixes come faster now than they did three years ago: we’ve already had four updates and so far there have been 23 listed bug fixes before now. iOS 6 had 21, iOS 7 had 27. If the newest update fixed more than four, and we’re not sure because the newest update didn’t list the number of bug fixes made, that puts iOS 8 at the highest yet but it’s not a lot more than the others.
