Apple and Google announced yesterday that they’ve made fixes to solve the newly discovered Freak security flaw that affects Mac computers and mobile devices. Vulnerability in the web encryption tech could allow attackers to see communications of people who use Android and Safari. Researchers who discovered the flaw said millions of people have been made vulnerable to hackers thanks to Freak.
According to a report by Financial Post, an Apple spokesperson said that the company has developed an update to fix the vulnerability, which will be pushed out next week. A spokesperson for Google said they had also developed a patch and has provided it to partners. She didn’t say when users would see the updates. Google doesn’t usually handle Android software updates; mobile carriers and device makers usually do that.
A Washington Post article said that the Freak bug left users vulnerable when visiting hundreds of thousands of different websites including official ones like for NSA, the FBI, and the Whitehouse.
