Apple extends trade-in program to non-Apple devices

Apple is making it even more attractive for people to switch to using iPhones. The in-store trade-in program is being extended to accept BlackBerry, Windows, and Android devices. That means anyone who takes an old device into an Apple Store will get credit to put towards a new iPhone.

The trade-in program started in 2013 in the U.S. and in 2014 in Canada. Right now, Canadians can take in an old iPhone and get up to $275 towards a new model. According to a report from Global News, a spokesperson from Apple refused to offer more information about how competitors’ devices would be evaluated or for how much. Used Apple devices are taken apart and re-usable components are taken out; metal, plastic, and glass are reprocessed to be used in new products.

BlackBerry started a trade-in program in November, saying it would take iPhone 4S and newer to get up to $400 for a trade-in, and an extra $200 if they switch to the BlackBerry Passport.
