Jony Ive named as Chief Design Officer for Apple

The man behind much of Apple’s industrial design language over the last several years had now been promoted as Apple’s new Chief Design Officer. Previously Jony Ive's title was SVP, and according to a report from Tech Crunch, this move puts Richard Howarth as the new boss in charge of Industrial Design and Alan Dye as the head of User Interface.

Ive’s new position will give him more time to actually design; in an interview with the Telegraph he said that he’ll be dropping some of the management and administrative work to take over responsibility for both ID and UI. He’ll also be taking the helm when it comes to retail store design for stores all around the world. Howarth and Dye will be the ones taking over the management and administrative duties of those sub-sections. The promotion will also allow Ive to get out of the lab and into the world more. He’s supposedly extremely involved with the Campus 2 “Spaceship Campus.”
