50 State Information Free app review: all the information you want to know in one app

Introduction

One of my favorite categories in the App Store is the reference category. There is so much information available for free within this category, that you will never have to stop learning or get bored, nor will you ever be caught without a topic during a conversation. A lot of these apps are very limited in what they offer, but some of these apps stand out due to the amount of information they have. Developer Atlas Labs, Inc. has just released 50 States Information free, an app compatible with both iPad and iPhone, that supplies you with everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the 50 states within the United States of America.

What it Offers

When you boot up the app, you will get to see a full list of all the 50 states in the United States. When you tap on one, you will go to the state’s page, where you will see an image of the state and some quick facts, such as the capital, the population, the size of the state, the elevation, the GDP, and when the area actually became a state. Under detailed information you can find a more in-depth breakdown of this information, including the time zone, abbreviations used for the state, and the website.

Under the State Symbol tab, you can find a long list of animate insignia (such as the state’s bird) and inanimate insignia (the state’s signature food), which can be a great conversational piece. Finally, you can see the state seal for each state in full color and high resolution.

 

The Missing Piece

The last section of each state page is the state’s flag. The downside is that you can’t access it. The ads, which in theory pay for the app, are hiding it and you can’t tap the plus symbol to expand it. This is a major design flaw and pretty annoying for anyone who wants to see this. I would recommend the app designer to take another look at this, as seeing the rest of the app is perfectly designed, this is a major letdown.

All in all, I would recommend this app to anyone who wants to have all the information about the 50 states of the United States of America in one place. The app is well-designed and easy to use, even though it has one major design flaw. You can’t see the state flags as they are covered by the ads that are always visible in the app. The app is designed for both iPad and iPhone and is just over 7 MB, which is not much, considering all the information is in here.
