Bubble Basher app review: a very simple Simon Says rip off

Reviews

Introduction

I’ve never been a big fan of games that use old game mechanics and stick a new coat of paint of it and call it their own, but some of these games actually manage to improve on the proven game mechanic. Most of these games actually fail to do this, making the game a simple clone of what was once a great game. The same goes for Bubble Basher by Fresh Apps LLC. This game simply uses the game Simon Says and has covered it with a new design and pretends that this is a new original game, but it's not. Bubble Basher is available for free and is compatible with iPhone, though it works fine on iPad too.

Gameplay

Gameplay is completely unchanged from the original game that was popular in the seventies. You hear a sound and a bubble lights up, and you will have to touch the bubbles that lit up in the specific order that the game dictates. Of course, this starts out really easy, but the further you get into the game, the longer the order of sounds get and the more it will test your memory. You can change the difficulty setting in the settings menu to make the game a bit easier if you’ve never played this game, but you will soon find the game too easy. Luckily you can also choose to make the game much harder.

Graphics and Sound

Since the game is developed only with iPhone in mind, you can imagine the graphics aren’t up to scratch with the big players in the App Store. The graphics look very simple and you can tell not much time has been put into designing the game. The sound of the game is a little better, as this will be an important mechanic for playing the game, but it doesn’t make the game jump out. All in all, this game is a simple and badly designed clone, but the game works and is free, so I can’t really complain.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Completely free
  • Different levels of difficulty
  • Great for your memory

Cons

  • It’s a badly designed rip-off
  • Simple graphics.

Conclusion

I wouldn’t really recommend Bubble Basher to anyone. The game is a complete rip-off of Simon Says, and there must be a ton of different and better games like it available in the App Store. Even though this game will be quite good for training your memory, I would suggest that you find your memory training elsewhere. Neither the graphics nor sound are up to scratch, and the app is only compatible with iPhone, though the game works for iPad too. The game is just over 32 MB, which is quite large for what you get.
