Poem Flow app review: a beautiful way to experience poetry

Reviews

Introduction

How would you like to experience poetry in a beautiful and almost mesmerizing way? That's exactly the case with the Poem Flow app which can be used on your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone. Every day you can launch this app and discover a brand new poem that might be a contemporary one or a classic and it is delivered to you in a "magical" way. The poem will advance so all you have to do is read it. You can keep your 20 favorite poems to enjoy any time or to share them with friends and family.

Standing the Test of Time

This app is almost four years old now and the developers have no plans on updating it due to cost. With that in mind you can't use the app with iOS 7 but even with that said the app is standing up well. In terms of the user interface it is simple, clean, and very user-friendly. The whole idea behind this app echoes the user interface in that it is a simple concept. You can enjoy a new poem each day and the way it is delivered on the screen is fun and not your typical reading experience.

The best iPhone apps for poets

The app offers three different in-app purchases which range in price from $0.99 to $2.99. These purchases will give you additional poems, however some users have experienced bugs with this. The app has three out of five stars from customers, so clearly it is a solid offering but still has room for improvements.

Using the App

There aren't a ton of features offered in the app but what it does have runs smoothly. When the poem shows up on the screen all you have to do is turn the device and it will then animate itself. It combines text, motion, and light with the idea that it feels "like a movie". I find the animation fun but I wouldn't call it a movie. You can share poems, view when and where the poem was last read (this uses Geolocation), and you are given 20 poems for free and one week worth of the poem-a-day.

The best iPad apps for poets

You can find poems by some of the most famous authors history has ever known such as Wallace Stevens, Keats, Shakespeare, Milton, Robert Frost, and plenty more. I think for what the app sets out to do it achieves it well despite it not being updated in so long.
