Tutor Notes app review: create your own courses and lessons to help your students learn effectively

Reviews

Introduction

This wonderfully simplistic app is designed to provide private tutors and one-on-one teachers with a clear and concise way of keeping track of their students, with the ability to create customized courses and lessons with lots of individual details for monitoring progress effectively.

I thought this app looked rather sparse when I first started it up, but after looking at what you can do with it, I’m very impressed.

I used to teach guitar to kids in my local area and oh boy, what I would have given to have something like Tutor Notes for keeping a simple record of where each pupil was in terms of their development!

Tutoring Has Never Been Easier

Using this app really couldn’t be simpler. You begin by creating a course, and from here you’ll be offered a handful of options having to do with naming and grading your course, along with a few other customization options.

The next step involves adding an entry for your pupil, including their name, contact details, and any relevant comments. Once this is done, you can begin to schedule lessons by selecting days of the week, start and end times, and even the location.

Keep Your Pupils On Track

I really like the way you can grade each lesson and even assign homework to your pupils to grade separately. You can add in lots of notes to keep an accurate record of how your students are performing, and all of the lessons for each course will be saved for future reference.

One thing which did require a little initiative on my part was editing courses. In order to view past lessons, edit, or suspend a course, you must tap and hold the relevant course on the Courses menu.

From here you can view historical records of past lessons and even delete old courses if necessary.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Create individual courses and lessons for your pupils
  • Assign homework and grade it separately from the lessons themselves
  • Additional spaces for adding notes
  • Schedule lessons and include details of their location
  • Add contact details for your pupils
  • Very simplistic design for ease of use

Cons

  • There is nothing negative to say about this app

Final Words

I’m always pleased to see apps where the developer has focused largely on the functionality rather than fussing too much over the visual presentation.

That is not to say that Tutor Notes is an ugly app, but it does have a basic interface which is relatively easy to use. It’s also worth noting that there is a help file you can access by tapping the icon in the top left-hand corner of the Courses menu, so you’ve no excuse for getting stuck!

With its ease of use, high degree of customizability, scheduling tool, and overall great content, I would definitely recommend Tutor Notes to any personal tutor or teacher who works on a one-to-one basis.
