Jony Ive makes red Mac Pro for Project RED auction

Jony Ive and Marc Newson have announced that they’ve made a red Mac Pro for their part of an auction for Bono’s Project (RED). It’s thought that the computer will sell for between $45,000 and $60,000 and is one of many items that will be auctioned off at Sotheby’s on November 23rd.

Project RED is a charity that’s designed to help fight AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis. Apple has had links with the charity in the past, most notably when an iPod Nano was released in the color red; Apple donated a percentage of the profit from sales of those Nanos to the charity.

The red Mac Pro does look pretty good, but you’d expect nothing less from Jony Ive, Apple’s Senior Vice President of design. He’s designed many of Apples products: the MacBook Pro, the iMac, the MacBook Air, the iPod, the iPhone, the iPad, the iPad mini, and iOS 7. He’s listed as the inventor on over 590 design and utility patents.
