Watch your back, Instragram; Flickr’s coming to Android. On the heels of Instagram’s recent release of 2.0 for iOS, Flickr has completely redesigned its UI for Android. Unlike its iPhone counterpart, Flickr for Android features photo filters, social capabilities, and even location mapping. The result bears an uncanny resemblance to the new Instagram. This could be bad news for Instagram, who have put all their time and energy into creating apps for iOS. The FAQ section of their website states that they have no plans to develop an Android app until they’ve made the iPhone experience “as solid as possible”. However, their one-app approach to development could open the floodgates for competition across platforms. Flickr, acquired by Yahoo! In 2005, has a strong web presence as well as 68 million registered users. Until their release of Flickr for Android, they focused mainly on less user-friendly apps for iPhone and Windows Phone.
