myLite LED Flashlight & Strobe Light for iPhone and iPod - Free app review: finally a flashlight with a dimmer

Reviews

Introduction

myLite LED Flashlight & Strobe Light for iPhone and iPod - Free is extremely easy to use. My baby figured it out in moments of having the phone; granted, she’s a genius. There are two basic settings: screen light, and LED light. What I appreciate about this is that there is a dimmer! Yes! Finally!

Dimmer Option

myLite LED Flashlight & Strobe Light for iPhone and iPod – Free thought of having a dimmer in their app. I really appreciate this because I often wind up using my phone as a flashlight to dig out a diaper in the middle of the night and the led light is too bright, but the screen light won’t stay on long enough. Very annoying. Fortunately the developers at doapp, inc did! Thank you!

There are two basic modes for the flashlight. There is the screen light, for which you can select different colors, and there is the LED light. Unlike BlackBerry, the iPhone LED is only one color as it is made to be a flash for the camera.

The Strobe

myLite LED Flashlight & Strobe Light for iPhone and iPod - Free does have a strobe light. I can see it being useful in an emergency but otherwise it is just annoying. Kids quickly figure out how to turn on the strobe, and then you have to turn it off. Again, the developers thought of this. There are four speed settings on the strobe option, and you simply set it to the desired speed by tapping the four dots above the on screen power switch. Tap it a fifth time and the strobe stops.

One downfall is that when you exit the app with the home button, the led light goes out too. If I was trying to read a map and navigate through the dark using the map, this app would not work. I could use the built-in flashlight on the control panel, but that’s no fun!

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • LED or screen light
  • LED light strobes and dims
  • Screen light strobes, dims, and has many different color options
  • Four different strobe speeds and tap the fifth time to turn it off
  • Swipe from screen to led so no hidden or hard to see buttons

Cons

  • LED goes out when you exit with the home button making it impossible to use the app and another app simultaneously

Final Thoughts

myLite LED Flashlight & Strobe Light for iPhone and iPod - Free did a pretty good job of making a simple flashlight tool that also comes in handy in an emergency to use as a signal. I appreciate how easy to use it was, but would like to be able to keep the light on when I am using other apps. I have resorted to using the built-in flashlight in the control panel for this use, but definitely use the dimmer when looking for items in the dark in my room at night so as to not wake the baby. Thank you for the dimmer option!
