Heroes versus Monsters app review: a hack and slash role playing game 2021

Reviews

Introduction

I have been looking for a decent role playing game app for my iPhone or iPad ever since I finished playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and haven’t found a good one since that time last summer.

The best RPG apps for iPad

When I stumbled across Heroes vs Monsters by Triniti Interactive Limited, I had my hopes up that this iPhone role playing game app will keep me busy for hours and hours, but I soon found out that my excitement was tempered.

Is this a top role playing game app for iPhone gamers? Keep reading our Heroes versus Monsters app review to find out.

The Premise

Heroes vs Monsters is a fantastic premise. The game promises hack & slash gameplay, which I really looked forward to, but when I started playing, I found out no such gameplay was to be found.

Instead I found a game where you move your heroes to different positions on the battlefield, where monsters come in and you have to use the position of your heroes to your advantage.

You pick your battles by moving over a 2D map. Each of your maximum of four heroes has its own abilities (such as the fighter is good at close combat and the priest can heal other characters at the cost of his own health). There are seven character classes in total, so it’s up to you to pick the best team.

Graphics and Sound

The game has a very nice and unique graphical style, and is very easy on the eyes. The characters move fluently on the battlefield and the animations are top-notch. The sounds are everything what you can expect from a game like this.

Nice whirling sounds for spells and clanks of swords are the order of the day. Regrettably the game bugged out on me quite early, as although the concept wasn’t what I expected, the game looked like a decent strategy RPG with tons of loot, a lot of customizability and fast-paced combat.

There are over 100 different enemies in the game, and the ones I encountered were all well-detailed and fun to attack.

Conclusion

My biggest disappointment with Heroes vs Monsters was the lack of polish. The game has a great concept and really nice graphics. I was looking forward to play this game for other reasons, but when I found out what the game was about it made me happy too.

The touch screen controls work like a charm and the customizability was interesting. I’m very disappointed I couldn’t progress through and find the epic loot the developer describes on the App Store page.

The game is available on iPad and iPhone and is completely free to play. Give it a shot, as if it doesn’t crash, there might be a jewel to be found.
