Interactive Reading

Reading Rainbow: Learn and Read with a Library of Children's Books, Kids Videos & Educational Games is an interactive reading app that is very well-developed. If you are a classroom teacher who can project the app on a screen, or have access to tablets for class use, this would be a very valuable resource.

Best iphone and ipad apps

The app menu is sorted into seven different topics, each with its own flying island.  Your child can select a topic to refine the story choices. Action Adventures & Magical Tales, Genius Academy, Awesome People, National Geographic Kids, Animal Kingdom, My Friends My Family, and Music Mountain make it easy for kids to search for books and then find one they are interested in.

The app is designed so that each child has a profile and a backpack. You can set it for kids under four, five through eight, and nine and over. This assists the app in selecting the right reading level, and interests.

Following the age selection, you choose your top three interests from wizards & fairies, sports, ocean adventures, things that go, princes & princesses, space & beyond, travel & adventure, animals, and pirates. You also tell it if you are a boy or a girl and have the option of adding more children.

Engaging the Child

Reading Rainbow: Learn and Read with a Library of Children's Books, Kids Videos & Educational Games really engages your child. By reading to them they hear the story, and will hopefully follow along with their finger, however, there is not an interactive pointer.

They can opt to swipe the page or tap the arrow, and there are magic swirls on some pages that engage the characters.

Additionally, each book has a small game of some sort. For example, the National Geographic Kids Dolphins book has a matching game. This makes this educational app truly amazing.

Final Thoughts

Reading Rainbow: Learn and Read with a Library of Children's Books, Kids Videos & Educational Games is an iPad app that will really get kids interested in reading. If you are struggling to keep your kids reading over summer vacation, an educational iPad app with interactive reading books is not a bad idea.

Not all kids want to sit down and read a chapter book over the summer, even though the parents would love it if they did. This app will engage the kids, and when you consider that a year’s subscription is $49.99 and you can have up to five kids on that subscription, it is well worth it.
