EPIC books app is an  iPad library for children of all ages. The library is filled with story books for kids. But, without agreeing to a free month with automatic renewal for $4.99, you don’t get to try this kids book app out.

I appreciate that they are business people, but a free trial with easy sign-up following the free month would be a more preferred method.  Nevertheless, epic books app is free for elementary school teachers and school librarians worldwide.

Used in over 90% of elementary schools, Epic brings an award-winning digital library into every classroom. Apps for kids books, like this Epic. is a great way to motivate young readers to read more with badges and rewards. Teachers can also assign books and track each student's reading progress.

Read-A-Loud Goes High Tech

EPIC! - Books for Kids brings reading to the tablet, and kids love playing with tablets. Thankfully, kids also still love the tactile feel of a book in their hands too, as exhibited by my two-year-old who has had technology her whole life. This app has a great selection of books but as mentioned above, you can’t try even one without committing to a $4.99 renewal following your free month.

Some titles that are advertised are Scaredy Squirrel, Olivia, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Berenstain Bears, as well as many classics  and well-known story books for kids and series that include Fancy Nancy, Flat Stanley, Warriors, Biscuit, National Geographic Kids, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Batman, Goosebumps, Clifford, Goodnight Moon, Big Nate, and many more.

The library contains everything from picture books to chapter books, early readers, audiobooks, graphic novels, non-fiction titles, educational books, videos and more. Epic also now includes Spanish books and Chinese books.

The app creates a reading journal that your child can personalize with their name, an avatar, frame, color, and more.  See our best book apps list for more options.

EPIC! - Books for Kids, as mentioned above, does not let you try the app without committing to automatic renewal following the free month. If you don’t remember to cancel you are automatically charged $4.99 every month.

I can get a library card for free, and most libraries have digital downloads too that are also free. While I appreciate that the company is trying to get a subscription service going, local libraries need to be used too, even if it is just for the free digital downloads.

Final Thoughts

EPIC! - Books for Kids is an iPad subscription library service that includes many popular titles, many new titles, and many classic titles. The books available cover a great range of interests, and are selected for you children based on the interests that they select in the registration process.

If I could view a list of suggested books prior to registering, than I could at least take the list to the library, but as it is, I can’t access anything but the sign-up portion. Overall, this app is very well-put-together, and if you are interested in paying a monthly subscription fee for your child to get books every month, $4.99 is less than the price of one book.

As long as you commit to read more than one book a month with your child, and would buy it otherwise, this app will pay for itself and you will be bonding with your child through his or her education.
