Practice Your Sight Words

Super Sight Words is a great app for practicing sight words. When you don’t have the time to sit down with your child to practice sight words one night, you can select the grade level from Kindergarten to Grade Two to have them practice. The app presents three words, and asks you to find one.

The game is based on stars, and as you earn more stars, you earn different stickers. The first one is worth eight stars, and they go up to over 200 stars. Unlike some other sticker reward charts though, the stickers go in specific spots, also teaching matching.

Good Practice, Lacking in Design

Super Sight Words uses a flash card style quiz, but the words just pop up on a blackboard. It’s not that nice to look at, and thus the students won’t play with it for very long. If you can get kids to play through a couple rounds to earn their stickers, then I’d call that a win. Learning to read is hard work!

What I do like is that the app includes a printable set of flash cards. If you go to the parent area, then you can print out the word list to practice with your child. Even though apps are helpful for many things, I still prefer paper for word learning. Books are paper, and flash cards to learn how to read are paper.
