Workout Doll Makeover Game app review: a fun game with lots of outfits

Introduction

Workout Doll Makeover Game is an iPad and iPhone game that allows your child to change the outfits of the female doll at the fitness center. There are many different outfits to mix and match, and many different backgrounds to choose from.

Dress Her Up

Workout Doll Makeover Game is a fun creativity app that allows your child to dress up the doll that is ready for her workout at the fitness center. There are several categories, and also a randomization option to just watch the doll change. The categories are: skin tone, top, pants, jacket, outfit, shoes, weights, hair, wrist band, hair band, and environment. The random button looks like a refresh button, and is pink in the top right corner.

There are many different looks, and I haven't counted them all because there are so many that are in there. My six-year-old has had a blast playing with this, because she likes dress up dolls, but also exercising. There are four environments, and 10 headbands though, so there are likely around the same number on the other accessories, for literally hundreds of combinations.

Issues

My main issue with Workout Doll Makeover Game is that the doll is unrealistically thin.  Young girls are inundated with unrealistic body images all the time, and I would love to see a doll app that portrays a more healthy image, as well as even more body shapes. The doll changes skin tone slightly, but not so much that my six-year-old could really tell what that button does.

I also would like to see the weights differ in size. The color changes, but they are still the tiny three to five pound weights. Women lift big weights too, and I don't want that image ingrained in my daughters either.

Final Thoughts

Workout Doll Makeover Game is an iPad and iPhone game for your children to play to get inspired to head to the local fitness center, or just to the park to run around. I love that there is an app like this, because often times girls especially feel intimidated to head to the gym. The unrealistic body image, and lack of larger bodies can be fixed in future updates, and I would love to see this. Overall, my girls like it, so you get the kid pass. I'll keep my eye out for more positive body image and more weight varieties in the future.
